On the Norwegian coast and in the Scottish Highlands, rain arrives sideways. The Storm shell has a three-layer waterproof fabric, taped seams and a stiffened peak on the hood that keeps water off your face and turns when you turn.
Long underarm zips let heat out on climbs, and the chest pockets sit above a hip belt so you can reach a map without unbuckling. It packs into its own pocket when the sun comes out.
