How we do it

Hiking the Northwilds way

Our hiking trips follow the paths locals love: hut-to-hut routes in the Dolomites, sea-cliff ridges in Lofoten and long valleys in the Julian Alps. You carry a day pack while your bag travels ahead, and every evening ends somewhere warm with a view.

  • Routes we have walked many timesEvery stage is walked by your guide each season.
  • Bags moved for youCarry a light day pack from hut to hut.
  • Ten people at mostSmall enough to stay in family-run huts.

Questions before you go

Booking a trip

How fit do I need to be?

Every trip has a difficulty. Easy means up to four hours of walking or paddling a day on good paths. Moderate means five to six hours with some climbs. Challenging means long days, steep ground and weather to match. If you are unsure, ask us and we will be honest.

How big are the groups?

Never more than twelve, and most trips run with six to ten people. Small groups mean we can stay in family-run huts and change plans when the weather does.

On the trip

Do I need to buy special kit?

No. Tents, stoves, kayaks, snowshoes and paddling kit are included where a trip needs them, and you can hire boots and waterproofs from us at the start.

What happens if the weather turns?

Your guide has a plan B for every day, and a plan C for most. Safety comes first, and the most memorable days are often the ones that did not go to plan.
