Dolomites hut to hut
4.9(187)South Tyrol and Veneto, ItalyHiking

A week through the pale towers of the Dolomites, walking from mountain hut to mountain hut on the Alta Via 1.
- The best stages of the Alta Via 1, from Lago di Braies to Passo Giau
- Six nights in family-run rifugi with homemade pasta and strudel
- Sunset over the Cinque Torri and the Tofane
- First World War tunnels on the Lagazuoi
- A guide who grew up in these valleys
About the trip
The Alta Via 1 is the most loved long walk in the Dolomites, and for good reason. Every day brings a new skyline of pale limestone towers, flower meadows and emerald lakes, and every night ends in a rifugio with a hot shower, a full plate and a terrace for watching the light on the rock.
We walk six of its finest stages, using a lift or two to skip the dull bits so the days stay at five to seven hours. The paths are well marked but long and steep in places, with a few short sections protected by cables.
