Lofoten ridge walk
4.92(214)Lofoten Islands, NorwayHikingGuest favourite

Six days on the sharp green ridges of Lofoten, sleeping in red fishing cabins and swimming off white-sand beaches.
- Sunrise from the summit of Reinebringen above Reine
- Four nights in restored rorbu fishing cabins on the water
- A wild swim at Kvalvika, one of Norway's most remote beaches
- Fresh cod and cloudberry cake cooked by a local family
- Light packs: your bags travel between cabins by boat
About the trip
Lofoten rises straight out of the Norwegian Sea in a wall of granite peaks, with turquoise bays and tiny fishing villages tucked in between. This walk links the best of it: airy ridges, quiet beaches and harbours where the drying racks still hang with cod.
Each day is a single walk of four to seven hours on good mountain paths, with some steep, rocky sections and a little scrambling with hands. You carry only a day pack. In June and July the sun never sets, so we often walk late and watch the light turn gold at midnight.
Who it suits
Regular walkers who are happy with 800 to 1,000 metres of climbing in a day. No technical experience is needed, but you should be comfortable on steep ground with a drop beside the path.

Ingrid Solberg
Lead guide, Lofoten and western Norway
Ingrid grew up on a fishing island north of the Arctic Circle and has walked every ridge in Lofoten at least twice. In winter she swaps boots for skis on the Hardangervidda plateau. She knows where the cloudberries grow and never shares it.
